Outstanding International Engagement Awards

The Office of International Engagement (OIE) joined UNI's annual celebration of Outstanding Leadership Awards in 2023 to recognize the successful engagement of our international or domestic students, faculty and staff members. The Awards are sponsored by OIE and will be celebrated each year in tandem with the UNI Student Leadership Awards.

Purpose

This award acknowledges the positive impact on international education and inclusion at UNI and throughout Cedar Valley. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate an outstanding contribution to international education, intercultural understanding, and global experiences that directly benefit the Cedar Valley community inside and outside academia.

Two Award Categories

  • A Rising Global Star Leader Award | for UNI students in any stage of their education (undergraduate, graduate, and CIEP)
  • Award for Excellence in International Engagement | for UNI students, faculty, staff, or a Cedar Valley Community member

Eligibility

  • UNI students in any stage of their education (undergraduate, graduate, and CIEP)

Criteria

Nominees should have evidence of well-established passion and significant contributions to their department, unit, institution, organization, community and the field of international education by engaging in one of the following activities such as

  • Organizing or leading activity or range of activities or services within their organization that promotes international education
  • Demonstrating innovation in their area of specialization
  • Presenting at conferences and/or have engaged in publications of their work
  • Contributing to international education as a volunteer leader
  • Shows promise in making further contributions to the field of international education as a leader

Nomination Procedure

Any interested party can nominate both themselves and others for the award by completing a nomination form. The nomination period will be start on Feb. 1, 2024. Nomination deadline is March 3, 2024. 

Judging Process

A committee of five (5) comprised of one student, one faculty, two staff members and one advisor will review applications and select award winners. Multiple winners may be chosen. Nominees are invited to the Student Leadership Awards Ceremony where winners will be announced.

Eligibility

  • UNI student, faculty, staff or Cedar Valley community member

Criteria

The nominee shows passion and has made significant contributions to their department, unit, institution, organization, community and the field of international education by engaging in one of the following activities such as

  • Commitment to promoting global understanding, research, and advocating for international exchange locally and globally
  • Provides support on- or off-campus cultural life reinforcing global awareness, internationalization opportunities, and knowledge exchange
  • Spirit of volunteerism and a long-term commitment to international education and exchange
  • Excellence in leadership for recruiting, training, and recognizing community volunteers
  • Active participation with international students/scholars/dependents in the local community

Nomination Procedure

Any interested party can nominate both themselves and others for the award. The nomination period will begin on Feb. 1, 2024 with a submission deadline of March 3, 2024.

  • Complete the primary nomination form
  • Provide two (2) additional references on the nomination form. (Names, organizations/institutions, daytime phone numbers, and email addresses)
